Ovarian Cancer Treatments
Ovarian cancer occurs when life-threatening cancer cells spread in the ovaries and the surrounding areas. The doctor chooses the main treatments for ovarian cancer based on certain factors, like the stages and the affected person’s overall health.
Surgery
The most common treatment for ovarian cancer is surgery, which aims to entirely remove the infected part to reduce the risk of spreading. The surgery should be performed by a certified gynecologic surgeon and oncologist. Ovarian cancer is treated by surgery when the doctors need to determine how much of the organ is affected and at what stage the patient is. This is known as a biopsy. When the stage of cancer is verified, the surgeon may try to remove as much of the cancerous organ as possible.
Chemotherapy
After the surgery takes place, this is considered the second stage to eradicate the rest of the cancer that surgery could not remove. The patient gets it through intravenous therapy or IV for the determinate amount of time after surgery (sometimes before the surgery) as per the doctor’s instructions. Chemotherapy attempts to stop the cancer cells from growing further and destroys the cells that might have already spread.
Radiation
Out of all the main treatment methods of ovarian cancer, radiation is the most rigorous and intense. This stage comprises intense X-rays that are applied to kill the cancerous cells. Radiation is used if the other treatments have not worked or if cancer has recurred. In the country, it is generally not used in the case of ovarian surgery.
Clinical trials
Doctors are always trying to find new ways and medicines to treat people faster and more effectively. They conduct clinical trials where they test the best state-of-the-earth technology and ultimately find the best treatment method for people suffering from different types of cancer. They also intend to make life more comfortable. Women suffering from ovarian cancer can take part in these trials, but it may not be suitable for everyone.
Complementary therapy options
Some women suffering from ovarian cancer get tired of the intense rounds of treatments and need to recharge their bodies and mind. They opt for diverse medicines and practices to feel better, which also promises lesser stress, pain, or discomfort. Out of the main treatments for ovarian cancer available today, it is the least rigorous and the main objective is to give the patients relief from stress and physical discomfort. These therapies are used along with regular treatment methods. Women choose therapies like acupuncture, aromatherapy, stress reduction, medication, massages, herbal medication, and yoga.
There are various ways to treat cancers such as ovarian cancer and it involves some stages of intensive medical care. The medical field is constantly improving pre-existing techniques and also trying to find new ways to save more lives.
